Tim.

As an children’s publishing Art Director and Designer, there are always books that make you think and feel just a little bit more.

I’ve been fortunate to make the book I’ve Never Met My Grandpa with my good friends at Kind World Publishing. Written by Shannon Zigmund and illustrated by Mackinzie Rekers, Grandpa is the story of a little girl who’s Grandpa left this earth before she had the chance to know him. Our adorable protagonist; however, has the opportunity to learn all about him through family pictures, stories and answers to her big questions. It’s a lovely tale about children, parents, grandparents, bridging the generation gaps in families, and losing loved ones.

Like our main character, I was also too young to remember my maternal grandfather Tim Murphy when he left us. Luckily, my family has stories, anecdotes and tons of memories that have helped me to get to know him over the years. Also (and most tangible) are the “souvenirs” I value so much. This wedding picture of “Tim” and “Dear” (breaking with tradition, the children in our family called them by these names) and Tim’s desk nameplate are chief among them. He was Captain of the Massachusetts state police detectives.

I didn’t really know Tim…but I kinda do.

I’ve Never Met My Grandpa, pub’d by Kind World Publishing, is available October 2022
